About the Tech Pilot
The BC PNP Tech Pilot is a fast-track Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for in-demand tech Employees and international students. Candidates have to be enrolled in one of B.C.’s present provincial immigration teams and possess a valid job offer of 12 or more weeks in one of their Tech Pilot’s 29 eligible occupations.
To apply for the Licensed Immigration or Express Entry BC categories candidates must first create a profile via the BC PNP’s internet portal and register under its Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS).
Applicants are evaluated and issued a score which determines whether they may be invited to apply in a particular invitation round. The rating is based on lots of factors such as level of schooling, years of direct work experience and having a B.C. job offer. Tech Pilot pulls are held weekly.
The pilot project was started in May 2017, following a labor market study that found the biggest problem facing B.C.’s tech industry was access to talent. So, the Tech Pilot was produced to encourage the tech sector’s growth by making it easier for workers with in-demand skills to immigrate to B.C.. The pilot has been extended several times, most recently until June 2021.
Tech Pilot for Express Entry candidates
Express Entry candidates who receive a nomination out of B.C. will receive an additional 600 points toward their Express Entrance Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation To Employ (ITA) at a future national Express Entry draw.
Express Entry is an application management system for three national immigration applications: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, along with the Canadian Experience Course .
Express Entry candidates are given scores based on their age, proficient work experience, education, and language ability in English or French, among other elements.
Canada then invites them to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry draws. If they’re approved, the last step would be to allow them to land in Canada and claim permanent residency status.
The latest Express Entrance attraction, on February 13, has been the largest draw ever. Every single Canadian Expertise Class candidate has been encouraged to apply for permanent residence.
