This is a permanent visa that allows visa holders to work and stay in Australia indefinitely.

However, the candidate first must first submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect in order to submit a valid application for this visa. This can be done both inside and outside of Australia.

Process to apply for Visa Subclass 189

Step 1: To be officially validated in the occupation you want to work in, it must be formally assessed by an authorised body. The assessing authority may take up to three months to make a decision.

Step 2: Once the assessment authority confirms your occupation, you must submit an Expression of Interest to the Department of Home Affairs to apply for the visa.

Step 3: After you’ve received your Invitation to Apply (ITA), you’ll need to pay the visa cost, submit your paperwork, and pass police and medical examinations.

Step 4: After obtaining the letter, you must enter Australia for the first time by the specified date to activate your visa.

Cost of visa processing

The primary applicant’s application fee for the Skilled Independent Visa Subclass 189 is AUD $4,240. There is a separate fee for each consecutive admission of qualified family members.
