Five of Canada’s Provinces Invite Candidates to Apply Through PNP

Candidates are asked to submit applications through provincial immigration programs in five of Canada’s provinces.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), used by most Canadian provinces, invites applicants. Only Nunavut and Quebec lack PNPs. Because immigration is a shared duty between the federal and provincial governments, Quebec is able to have a separate arrangement with the federal government. Contrary to other provinces, Quebec’s agreement offers the province complete discretion over the immigration of people from different socioeconomic groups.

For all candidates, receiving a provincial nomination helps their case for permanent residence. Additionally, a nomination increases an Express Entry candidate’s application’s CRS score by 600 points.

Provincial Immigration Results September 2-8

Ontario

On September 7, 300 applicants were invited to apply through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s (OINP) Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream. CRS scores for invited applicants varied from 308 to 434.

Since it was a general draw, applicants from any profession could apply as long as they met the necessary language requirements of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 6 in English and (CLB) level 7 or above in French. To determine their CLB level, candidates are judged on their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.

Quebec

The results of a draw that took place in Quebec on August 24 have been made public.

1000 applicants from a variety of targeted professions were asked by the province to apply for permanent selection. A 584 score was the minimum requirement.

Candidates needed to have at least level 7 oral French proficiency (or its equivalent) as measured by the Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français des personnes immigrantes adultes.

Candidates were also taken into consideration if they obtained a job offer from a location other than the Montréal Metropolitan Area.

British Columbia

On September 6, British Columbia held three lotteries for the BC PNP, inviting 222 applicants.

A general draw for skilled workers, international graduates, and entry-level and semi-skilled employees attracted 160 applicants in total. Depending on the stream, they required a Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) score between 89 and 110.

43 early childhood educators and assistants, as well as 19 healthcare professionals, were invited to the final two drawings. They required a SIRS score of at least 60.

New Brunswick

Through the New Brunswick Express Entry program, 259 applicants were encouraged to apply in July. Only this week did the province make these results public.

Three different NB PNP streams received invites in different quantities. The NB Employment Connection welcomed 58 individuals, the NB Student Connection invited 130, and the NB Occupations in Demand Connection invited 71.

An ITA recipient has 45 days to complete and submit their application. New Brunswick has sent invitations to 889 Express Entry hopefuls so far this year.

Alberta

On August 29, Alberta sent invitations to 18 Express Entry applicants via the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway, along with an offer of employment. A CRS score of 300 or above was necessary.

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) had a busy month in August. The province welcomed 883 Express Entry candidates through eight separate drawings.
