Australia PR Visa Process from India in 2025

Australia has remained a hotspot for immigration over the past years due to its thriving economy, world-class infrastructure, free educational facilities, and low-cost medical facilities. Apart from these facilities, Australia prioritises its citizens and PR holders. Australian policies place its citizens and PR holders on the same pedestal.

Australia, known for its immigration-friendly norms, invites applications from students, skilled workers, families, and businesspersons to live, work, study, and settle in Australia. During this process, Australia offers PR visas to the applicants and later citizenship.

Immigrating to Australia is not as easy as it sounds, as it has to undergo a structured process to reach the destination. Immigration to Australia was introduced under the Skilled Migration Programs to address labour shortage needs. Under the Skilled Migration Programs, there are major immigration programs such as:

    ●      Australia skilled independent visa (subclass 189 visa)

    ●      Australia skilled nominated visa (subclass 190 visa)

    ●      Skilled work regional (provisional) visa (subclass 491)

These immigration visas, such as Subclass 189, Subclass 190, and Subclass 491, were brought to make immigration easier and swifter. As these visa programs also follow a strategic process, applicants are being evaluated on certain factors such as age, work experience, educational qualifications and English language proficiency.

Step-by-step Australia PR visa process for Indians

The Australia PR visa can be obtained by following a few steps. By following certain steps, the Australian PR process becomes easier and transparent.

    ●      Step 1: Determine your Eligibility

For the Australia PR visa, applicants are required to score 65 points in the point assessment grid. 65 points are evaluated on a few grounds such as age, educational qualifications, work experience and English language proficiency test score.

     ●    Age - the age segment under this PR visa process is below 45 years. Applicants aged 25 - 32 years score the maximum points, i.e, 30 points and points gradually decrease after 40 years.

    ●    Work experience - for the application of an Australian PR visa, the applicant must have at least one year of work experience in the same occupation he has applied.

    ●    Skilled Occupation List - another requirement for the PR visa is that the occupation the applicant has applied for must be listed on Australia's skilled occupation list.

    ●    English Language Proficiency - the applicant must clear an English language proficiency test such as IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL.

    ●      Step 2: Take English language test

English language proficiency is one of the crucial requirements for an Australian PR visa. Therefore, Candidates must undergo an English Language test such as IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL. Minimum score of 6.0 band is mandatory, and it is further bifurcated as on

IELTS competent score -  band 6  in each module - 0 points

IELTS proficient score -  band 7  in each module - 10 points

IELTS superior score -  band 8  in each module - 20 points

      Step 3: Skill Assessment

Skill assessment is a process where Australian immigration determines if an applicant’s qualifications and work experience meet the standards required for the nominated occupation. Each occupation has a different assessing authority.

    Skill Assessment Authority

    Profession

    Engineers Australia

    Engineering

    ACS

    ICT professionals

    VETASSES

A wide range of professionals and trade occupations

    CPA Australia

      Assess Accountants

Each occupation mentioned on the Australian Skilled Occupation list is linked with a Skill assessment authority approved by the Department of Home Affairs, Australia, with an ANZSCO code, as it classifies occupations available in the Australian employment sector. A few examples of in-demand occupations with their ANZSCO codes:

     ●    Registered Nurse: 254412

    ●    Software Engineer: 261313

    ●    Civil Engineer: 233211

    ●    Electrician: 341111

    ●    Primary School Teacher: 241213

    ●    Accountant: 221111

Step 4: Submit an EOI (Expression of Interest)

The next step towards this process is the submission of an Expression of Interest. It is essentially done through the Department of Home Affairs via the SkillSelect platform. The EOI consists of the applicant's motive and interest lying behind immigration to the country.

SkillSelect accepts EOI and later ranks them based on the profiles received. The higher the profiles, the higher the chances of receiving an Invitation To Apply (ITA).

    ●      Step 5: Get an ITA (Invitation to Apply)

Once EOI has been submitted, the Department of Home Affairs invites the highest-scoring individuals to apply for PR. Invitations are conducted on regular intervals periodically throughout the program year. Once ITA is received, applicants are bound to submit their respective documents within 60 days of receiving ITA.

    ●      Step 6: Necessary Documents

Gather all the necessary documents needed for the visa application:

    1. Valid passport
    2. Skills assessment result
    3. English language test result
    4. Work experience letters
    5. Educational certificates
    6. Proof of financial stability
    7. Medical and police clearance certificates
     ●      Step 7: Apply PR visa

Apply for a visa online via ImmiAccount Australia, ensuring that all of the information and supporting documentation submitted is correct and satisfies all the requirements.

Step 8: Pay the Visa Fee

The PR visa application fee varies by visa type and the number of applicants. Typically, the cost starts at AUD 4,910 for primary applicants, with additional charges for dependents.

    ●      Step 9: Medical and Police Clearance Certificate

Undergo a medical examination by a panel physician accredited by the Australian government to ensure that you are medically fit. Obtain a police clearance certificate to ensure you have good character.

    ●      Step 10: Wait for the Decision

The processing time of one's visa application remains in the hands of the subclass and individual circumstances. Generally, the Processing time for :

    ●      Subclass 189: 6–8 months

    ●      Subclass 190: 4–6 months

    ●      Subclass 491: 3–5 months

After approval, applicants receive a grant letter, also known as CORP ( Confirmation of Permanent Residence), containing information regarding the Permanent Residency visa for Australia.
