Canada is all set to increase its Canada permanent residence with immediate effect from April 30, 2026, whereas Canada citizenship application fee will be effective from March 31, 2026.
IRCC with major effect from March and April 2026, has decided to increase the respective fees under every PR category, including economic programs, like Express Entry program and the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), family sponsorships, protected persons, and humanitarian and compassionate cases.
Who is Eligible to Pay the Fees?
Every individual, be it a skilled professional, eligible partner or spouse, parents or dependent children who aspire to immigrate to Canada and its respective provinces to secure Canada permanent residency with a dream to living as a Canadian citizen, will now have to bear an extra amount while applying for Canada PR.
With the latest update, the right to permanent residence fee (RPRF) will also be increased. However, applicants who have applied and paid the old fees before April 30 or March 31, will not be affected by the recent changes. Whereas applicants who have mailed a paper application before this date, may need to pay the fee difference, as there could be delay when an applicant submit their application and when IRCC receives the PR application.

IRCC has also defined the dependent children category so as to avoid misunderstanding while applying for the PR visa application. According to the higher authorities, a dependent child is a one who:

❖ not having a spouse or partner
Children above the age of 22 can qualify as dependents as long as they:
● have dependent on their parents for financial support since before they were
● can’t financially support themselves due to mental or physical condition
