The latest French language proficiency draw is considered to be the second French language category draw and the thirteenth draw of the year 2026. It was also considered the second lowest-ranking draw in the year after the Physicians with Canadian Experience Class category draw this year.
With the maximum of 5 draws, the PNP program ranks ahead of other Express Entry draws, but with only two draws, the French language proficiency category draw attracts 14,000 applicants thus far in 2026.

Understand Why Three Consecutive Draws
In the initial months of 2026, IRCC has already held thirteen draws and has invited more than 39,000 applicants to immigrate to Canada as permanent residents. With the aim of addressing labour shortages across the country, Canada is at present focusing on category-based selection so as to attract skilled professionals across various industries. Although the entire focus is laid on professionals with Canadian work experience, the country desires to retain its workforce while strengthening its economy. However, by attracting numerous applicants under the French language category, Canada also supports francophone immigrants so as to strengthen bilingualism in the country.
What is in the Future with the Canada Express Entry Draws?
After witnessing the major trends luring around the Canada Express Entry draws, it is expected from IRCC to withhold more category-based draws, with its continuous support for the CEC category and French language proficiency category. As earlier mentioned in the Canada Immigration Level Plan 2026-2028, Canada also aims to increase its permanent residency target from 55,000 to 91,500 applicants, so it is clear that we can expect more PNP draws in the upcoming months of the year 2026.
Well, if skilled professionals aspire to immigrate to Canada under the Express Entry Program, they can make this happen in 2026 only if:
- assures to score higher in the language tests
- gain Canadian work experience (by applying for the post-study work permit)
- apply for Provincial Nominee Program
- learn French language as an added advantage
Well, by taking these requirements into consideration, talented and skilled professionals can move closer to achieving their goal of becoming permanent residents of Canada.
