In a major move to strengthen Canada Immigration, the country has announced two significant updates related to Quebec Immigration, British Columbia PNP Program and Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) on consecutive days.
On June 10, 2026 Quebec confirmed the re-opening of the flagship permanent residence pathway, creating opportunities for skilled workers seeking residency in the province. Just a day later, on June 11, 2026 the Atlantic Immigration Program announced reduced processing times for permanent residence applications, making the pathway easier and more efficient for eligible candidates.
These back to back updates are particularly considered significant for Canadian immigration as all three programs serve as the key routes to Canada permanent residency for eligible professionals from India. The reopening of the flagship pathway through the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ) indicates Quebec’s aim of attracting skilled professionals and international students who seek permanent residency in the province whereas reduction of processing time for the AIP program indicates Canada’s efforts to address labour market needs. Similarly, British Columbia’s update on inviting cleaners and security workers, working under a B.C health authorities. Although, it is a temporary pathway but eventually it enables cleaners and security personnels an opportunity to become permanent residents of Canada. Together, these updates highlight Canada’s continued commitment to attract skilled and talented professionals from India through multiple permanent residency pathways across the country.
Latest Update: Quebec Immigration
The latest update on the Quebec immigration on June 10, 2026 announced the reopening of the program – Quebec Experience Program (PEQ), from July 2, 2026 and is set to remain open for a two year period running through to July 2, 2028.
According to the updates, this program will run through two phases, the first being from July 2 to October 31, 2026 focused on foreign nationals who had been eligible for both the PEQ streams – international graduate stream and foreign worker stream. PEQ is one of the dedicated immigration programs under Quebec immigration which enables foreign nationals to immigrate and reside in the province as residents. Well, eligible applicants (a foreign national) applying under these dedicated streams are required to hold certain requirements which are as follows:

Have lived in Quebec for at least half the duration of their study program | Be employed in a qualifying job at the time they apply |
Have obtained their qualifying post-secondary credential within the previous three years, at the time of their application | |

As per the official sources there has been no cap on applications for the first phase. However the key dates for the applications are as follows
Begins at : 8:30 a.m Eastern Time on July 2, 2026
Close : October 31, 2026
During this time period, Quebec will scale back on issuing invitations through the Skilled Worker Selection Program (PSTQ) and will be targeting candidates working in TEER 4 or 5, along with the candidates who have yet to acquire two year’s work experience. Even with the high volume of applications during this period, Quebec has also decided to revoke its commitment to a six-month processing time.
According to the Quebec’s Immigration Ministry, this reopening of the PEQ pathway is a temporary measure as it aims to close PEQ in July of 2028 and later on it will handle all the economic permanent residence selection through the PSTQ. Despite all of this, Quebec has announced an estimated cap of 8000 – 10,000 eligible applicants in its first intake.
Latest Update: Atlantic Immigration Program
On June 11 2026, the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) announced the reduction of processing times for permanent residence applications by a full year.
According to the official sources, the expected wait time as of June 8, 2026 on a newly submitted AIP application is 26 months whereas as of May 12, 2026, it was 38 months. This measure has been taken in accordance to simplify the rising problem of permanent residency visa applications raised by the skilled workers currently working a work permit.
Due to increased processing times before, many skilled applicants faced problems because their AIP work permit visas were only valid for up to two years and that non-renewal. Unlike many other immigration programs, AIP applicants are not even eligible for bridging open work permits, which means they were at a risk of losing their legal right to work before receiving a decision on their permanent residency visa application.
And to address this issue, the Atlantic provinces also provide support letters to eligible AIP applicants whose work permits are about to expire. These letters allow them to apply for a C18 employer specific work permit, allowing them to continue working in Canada while waiting for a decision on their permanent residency application.
The AIP is considered to be an employer driven pathway to permanent residency as it enables foreign nationals to stay, work, and reside in one of the four Atlantic provinces of Canada. In order to immigrate to one of the Atlantic provinces of Canada through the AIP program must adhere to certain requirements such as:
● a job offer letter from an employer designated by New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island
● the job offer must be endorsed by the province
● applicant must meet the minimum requirements for language proficiency, work experience, education and settlement of funds
The official data states that as on June 8, 2026 there were 12,900 applications awaiting processing in IRCC’s inventory.
Latest Update: British Columbia PNP Program
Apart from these updates, B.C has also invited cleaners and security workers who are working with B.C Health authorities. Eligible applicants working with B.C health authorities, through this temporary pathway can significantly earn an opportunity to become permanent residents of B.C.,Canada. This pathway is a one time initiative with only 250 nomination slots available this year. In order to qualify under this pathway, applicants must demonstrate that they:
● work in an eligible job
● are a direct employer of a B.C health authority
● their work location is rural / remote
● have completed at least 9 months of full time work with the same employer at the time of registration
● their employer supports their B.C PNP application
