Key Highlights

The key updates regarding the opening of registration for the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream is as follows:

●    Official opening for registration starts from August 4, 2026

●    Eligible candidates can now submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Ontario’s e-filling portal, which is linked to a job offer created by an eligible Ontario employer in the OINP’s employer portal

●    The new stream includes two pathways for skilled workers and one pathway for self-employed physicians

●    EOIs will remain valid for 12 months and if a candidate does not receive an invitation to apply within 12 months, they are required to re-register a new EOI to remain under considerations

●    Candidates will be ranked by the OINP under their newly launched point system

●    Invited candidates will have 17 calendar days to submit a complete application

●    Employers must submit their employment position approval within 14 calendar days of the invitation

●    Once an employer submits the job offer through the OINP Employer Portal, applicants are required to register your EOI within 30 calendar days. Missing this window means the applicant cannot register under that job offer

●    Successful nominees may become eligible to apply for Canadian permanent residence through the enhanced Provincial Nominee Program.

Important Note: All EOIs submitted under the previous OINP streams have been withdrawn. Candidates who registered under the old system must submit a fresh EOI under the new Ontario Workforce Priority Stream.

What is Ontario Workforce Priority Stream ?

Ontario Workforce Priority Stream is an immigration pathway introduced under Ontario’s newly restructured immigration system. On June 26, 2026, Ontario simultaneously closed all eight existing OINP streams and launched the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream, marking a complete redesign of the province's immigration system.

Phase 1

➔  TEER 0 – 3 pathway

➔  TEER 4 – 5 pathway

➔  Self employed physicians

Note: The TEER 4-5 pathway is a base provincial nomination only, it does not qualify for enhanced nomination through Express Entry. TEER 0-3 and self-employed physicians may receive enhanced nomination allowing faster PR processing.

Phase 2

➔  Priority healthcare stream

➔  Entrepreneur stream

➔  Exceptional talent stream

Note: Phase 2 streams are proposed only. No eligibility criteria, launch dates, or regulations have been confirmed as of August 2026

While Ontario is expected to launch invitations under phase 2 later this year, the province has already implemented the point based ranking system for the pathways introduced in phase 1. With the Expression of Interest (EOI) registration portal now open, eligible foreign nationals can officially submit their profiles and enter the selection pool for provincial nomination under the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream.

Understand How the Selection Process Works ?

Eligible candidates planning to live, work, and settle in Ontario, must understand how the selection process works so as to receive a positive provincial nomination. The selection process can be understood in a simple yet structured manner which is as follows:

➔  The foremost step for the process is the registration of Express of Interest (EOI), which will officially start from August 4, 2026.

➔  Once an eligible candidate submits its EOI, the profile enters the OINP selection pool.

➔  The OINP will periodically conduct invitation rounds and will select candidates based on the recently introduced point based system.

➔  Candidates who are invited will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for provincial nomination.

➔  Eligible Self-employed physicians are required to follow a different process. Initially they are required to submit a webform through the OINP website as the first step, rather than linking to an employer job offer.

With these structured steps, eligible candidates can successfully receive a positive response against their Ontario provincial nomination application.

Timeline Required for the Nomination

The province has also presented a demonstration of the timeline required for receiving nomination which is as follows:

Stages

Timeline

Expression of Interest (EOI) validity

 Up to 12 months

Candidate application submission

Within 17 calendar days of invitation

Employer position approval

Within 14 calendar days of invitation

What Does This Mean for Prospective Immigrants From India?

The opening of the new pathway Ontario Workforce Priority Stream, provides numerous new opportunities for eligible foreign workers and self- employed physicians from India, seeking Canadian permanent residency through provincial nomination. Eligible Indian applicants with qualifying job offers from Ontario employers can now begin submitting their Expression of Interest and position themselves for future invitation rounds under Ontario’s recently modernized immigration framework.

According to the official data, Ontario's 2026 nomination allocation is 14,119 spaces. Of these, approximately 13,278 were already used under the old streams, meaning only a limited number of spaces remain for draws under the new OWPS in 2026. Eligible Indian candidates with a qualifying job offer should register their EOI immediately.
