Canada's Express Entry system has just delivered one of its busiest weeks of 2026. Between 13 and 16 October, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held three draws and issued 8,252 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence.
Here is what happened, round by round.
Round #448 — 13 October: Provincial Nominee Program
- Invitations: 752
- CRS cut-off: 772
PNP candidates receive 600 additional CRS points from their provincial nomination, which is why the cut-off appears so high — the nomination itself transforms an ordinary federal score into an invitation.
Round #449 — 15 October: Canadian Experience Class
- Invitations: 2,500
- CRS cut-off: 519
A larger round than the previous CEC draw on 29 September (2,000 invitations at CRS 518) — a sign of steady demand for candidates with Canadian work experience.
Round #450 — 16 October: French-language proficiency
- Invitations: 5,000
- CRS cut-off: 435
The standout round of the week. French-speaking candidates continue to enjoy the fastest lane in Express Entry — the 19 August French-language round invited candidates at CRS scores as low as 382.
2026 in context
IRCC has now issued well over 135,000 invitations across more than 60 rounds this year, putting 2026 on track to be one of the biggest Express Entry years on record.
What this means for you
- If you speak French — or are prepared to learn — your effective CRS threshold drops by roughly 80–100 points compared with general rounds.
- If you have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada, CEC draws are running roughly every two weeks.
- If your CRS score sits below 500, a provincial nomination (worth 600 points) remains the surest route to an invitation. Talk to us about which PNP stream fits your profile.
