VETASSESS Updates Its Professional Assessment Framework for 2025

VETASSESS Skill Assessment is a crucial requirement for individuals applying for Australia Permanent Residency, ensuring their qualifications and work experience meet the country’s skilled migration standards. 

VETASSESS has updated its assessment framework for professional occupations for the year 2025. These changes will be in effect from December 1, 2025. 

What is VETASSESS and why is it important? 

VETASSESS (Vocational Education and Training Assessment Services) is one of the leading skill assessment authorities essential for Australia. It evaluates skilled professionals on the basis of their educational qualifications, skills, work experience, nominated occupation to be listed on the Australia Skilled Occupation List

VETASSESS evaluates profiles for certain professional and trade occupations. The main purpose of evaluating profiles is to get assurance that the selected applicant is capable enough for the Australian labour market.

VETASSESS assesses 341 professional occupations across various industries. Some of the sectors with occupations are listed such as:

Business and Finance – Economist and Market Research Analyst

Construction and Manufacturing – Project Builder and Landscape Architect

Arts and Education – Print Journalist and Web Designer

Science, Health and Agriculture – Veterinary Nurse and Physician

Hospitality and Retail – Importer or Exporter and Cafe or Restaurant Manager

Latest Updates Brought Under By VETASSESS

From December 2025, certain changes will be made applicable under VETASSESS skill assessment procedures such as: 

1. Processing Time

VETASSESS has made a timeframe regarding processing time required for the application. It is a minimum time required by the authorities to assess the application and revert to the applicants. Well, the processing time for certain assessment types are as follows:

 2. Timeframe to Submit Additional Documents

VETASSESS will now grant applicants an additional 28 days to submit any supplementary documents requested by the assessing authority. However, the authority will also make 2 further attempts to obtain them, if failed in the first place. If an applicant does not respond to the requests made, VETASSESS will consider the application as not suitable. 

3. Urgent Processing for Applicants with Invitation to Apply (ITA)

VETASSESS has also assured applicants who have received ITA has 60 days to lodge the application but their skill assessment report is expired or is about to expire, they can request authority to process their application under priority basis without paying priority processing fee.

4. What’s Next After Completing Full Skill Assessment ?

Once the entire skill assessment procedure is being done, applicants can check the results and proceed further accordingly. There is a complete list of timeframe applicable for different aspects:

If the Result Is Not Suitable

Ask for a review of the same occupation

within 90 days

Apply again for the same occupation

within 12 months

Apply again for a different occupation

within 12 months

 

If the Result Is Suitable

Ask for a review of the same occupation

within 12 months

Renew your assessment for the same occupation

within 3 years

5. Additional Requirements for Identity Documents

VETASSESS has also asked applicants to provide at least 3 separate additional identity documents such as:

● At least one document must show the applicant's full name and date of birth

● At least one document must be a current and valid (not cancelled or expired) government-issued identity document with the applicant's photograph and signature

● If the applicant has changed their legal name, they must provide documents that show the change from one legal name to the next (statutory declarations are not acceptable) 

6. Updated VETASSESS Skill Assessment Fee

VETASSESS Skill assessment has also updated its fee structure applicable from October 22, 2025. The updated list of application fee is as follows:

For both qualifications and employment - Australian or Overseas

Applying from within Australia (includes GST)

Applicant is not a resident of Australia for tax purposes (excludes GST)

AUD $1205.60

AUD $1096.00

Priority Processing Fee

AUD $907.50

 AUD $825.00
