Australia Subclass 189: Full Occupation-Wise Score Breakdown— 15 October 2026 Round

Australia's first Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent) invitation round of the 2026–27 program year was held on 15 October 2026 — and applicant communities have been pooling reported invitations ever since. Here is the most detailed occupation-wise picture available right now.

How to read this data

The big takeaways

1.       Trades are the story of this round. At 65 points, carpenters and electricians were invited at some of the lowest scores seen in any 189 round — proof that occupation matters as much as points.

2.       The bar rises steeply for white-collar roles. Most engineers, managers and professionals needed 80–95 points.

3.       Healthcare remains accessible. Nurses, midwives and allied health professionals clustered at 70–80.

NSW Subclass 190 — nominations now open

Alongside the 189 round, New South Wales has opened its Subclass 190 nominations for 2026–27 with an updated Skills List, and the first invitation round is expected this week (week of 19 October). The subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional) pathways remain closed for now. If NSW is your target state, check the updated list before the first round runs.

What this means for you

·         Check your occupation first, your points second. A 65-point carpenter received an invitation in this round while some 90-point professionals are still waiting — strategy beats raw score.

·         If your occupation sits near a reported threshold, a small points boost (partner skills, NAATI, professional year) could make the difference next round.

·         Keep your Expression of Interest (EOI) updated — invitation outcomes also depend on date of effect, so an early, accurate EOI matters.
