    Trade Recognition Australia Skill Assessment

Trade Recognition Australia (TRA) is an Australian skills assessing authority within the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, which evaluates skilled professionals who hold trade qualifications obtained either in Australia or overseas to get themselves eligible for Australian Immigration.

TRA evaluates applications based on educational qualifications and work experience that meet Australian industry standards required for the General Skilled Migration (GSM) and Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS) visa.

Australian Immigration is a journey that meets several stations in order to reach its destination. For a successful Australian immigration process, applicants require 65 points on the point assessment grid, a nominated occupation listed on the Australian skilled occupation list and a positive skill assessment report. Other than TRA, Australian occupations are assessed through other assessment routes such as VETASSESS, ACS, Engineers Australia, and CPA, depending upon the skills mandatory for each route.

    TRA Skill Assessment Pathways

There are four pathways through which applicants can submit their applications for the TRA skill assessment:

     1.   Provisional Skills Assessment

This is the first step in the whole application process. The applicants applying for the JPR (Job Ready Program) must have a positive assessment report from PSA (Provisional Skills Assessment). PSA assesses profiles on the basis of the applicant’s identity and Australian educational qualifications.

     2.   Job Ready Program

The Job Ready Program (JPR) is an employment-based assessment program for applications from international graduates with Australian qualifications that have been verified through a Provisional Skills Assessment.

     3.   Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Skills Assessment Program

The TSS program is applicable for applicants who require skill assessment as a part of their temporary skills shortage (subclass 482) visa application.

     4.   Migration Points Advice

Migration Points Advice is a program for individuals who have a positive skill assessment report and now want to apply for the point-tested independent skilled migration visa through the Department of Home Affairs.

     5.   Offshore Skill Assessment Program (OSAP)

The OSAP is for applicants who need skill assessment for a skilled migration visa application for individuals applying from outside Australia. This program assesses applications on certain employer-sponsored visas on the basis of skills and work experience required for the nominated occupation. OSAP targets applications for licensed or high-risk occupations from selected countries like India, China, and South Africa.

     6.   Migration Skills Assessment

The Migration Skill Assessment is a program that allows skilled professionals inside or outside of Australia to seek skill assessment required for the skilled migration program. They assess skills, educational qualifications, and work experience required for the selected nominated occupation.

Unlike OSAP, the Migration Skill Assessment is a document-based assessment that does not require a license for selected occupations.

The next step for this process is to register online through the online TRA portal. With this registration, the applicant will be asked to create a username and password for the application.

     4.   Gather Essential Documents

After online registration, gather all the necessary documents vital for the TRA skill assessment report. The list of essential documents are:

Upon the completion of essential documents, verify all the details once again and submit the application with the applicable fee required for the application submission. ●    Pathway 1

★   Applicants who do not have an Australian qualification in their trade.

    ●    Pathway 2

★   Applicants who have a relevant Australian qualification.

★   Applicants who have a current identified Australian occupational license.
