The Current State Of Canada Express Entry Pool - An Overview

Following a hectic August and a record number of drawings in July, the applicant pool's overall composition and the newcomers invited to apply (ITAs) for permanent residence (PR) have changed in Canada's Express Entry system.

The following details the overall composition of the Express Entry pool and tracks the cut-off scores for several draws over the past month to better inform applicants and those considering immigration to Canada.

The Current Status of Express Entry Pool

Insights of Express Entry Draw of August Month

The Canadian Immigration Authority, IRCC(Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada) has issued five express entry draws throughout August. In total, they have issued more than 10,000 ITA’s. IRCC has returned to its old pattern of publishing the Express Entry Draw cut-off list every alternate week.

The following tabular representation explains the number of draws released in August.

The draw was published in August and reflects the changes announced by the Canadian Immigration minister. For instance, Miller's remarks from last March, in which the Minister stated his goal to pursue more "domestic" draws through the federal immigration system, are reflected in the frequency of CEC and PNP draws. During the news conference, Miller also asked his provincial counterparts to seek Canada's PNP to be treated similarly.

The aim behind this move was to reduce the unnecessary burden on the housing stock, as well as possible effects on affordability, by not inviting new immigrants to Canada.

Instead, the department prioritizes those currently in Canada as temporary residents (mostly those with work permits) and those qualified to become permanent residents. Additionally, this will assist IRCC in reaching its yearly immigration goal of permanent residents.

Furthermore, Canada has declared that it will raise the proportion of Francophone immigrants going to non-Quebec provinces within annual targets, underscoring the significance of Francophone immigration to the nation.

The distribution of this proportion will rise from 6% to 7% in 2025 and 8% in 2026. With seven draws for French language proficiency this year, approximately 19,000 ITAs have been issued in 2024.

The table mentioned below explains the top end of each Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) Score. It is given a percentile with the assumption that the highest score will contain the total number of candidates within the range (for example, candidates with a score of 300 are assumed to have 5,491 candidates (the total number of candidates in that range) in the Express Entry pool with lower scores than them).
