Newfoundland and Labrador have released new measures to make it much easier for companies to hire foreign nationals that will address the labour shortages in the state through the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
The state published a list of jobs that are exempt from provincial labour market testing procedures. Newfoundland and Labrador occupations.
These procedures include the Job Vacancy Assessment. Somewhat like a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), a Job Vacancy Assessment proves that the employer has exhausted all available options to hire a suitable candidate in the local labor market prior to inviting an immigration candidate to fill the vacancy.
Besides the Job Vacancy Assessment, the Atlantic Immigration Program has its own labour market testing requirements, such as advertising.
To benefit from the exemption, candidates will need to get a job offer within an in-demand occupation. The state’s in-demand jobs have been in three sectors: the healthcare industry and the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.
In-demand health care industry occupations that are exempt from provincial labor market testing procedures are listed below :
• Nurse Practitioner (NP)
• Personal Care Attendant (PCA)
• Clinical Psychologist
• Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN)
• Medical Physicist
• Radiation Therapist
In-demand ICT sector occupations that are exempt from provincial labor market testing processes are listed below :
• Biomedical Engineer
• Software Developer
• UI/UX Developer
• Electrical Engineer
• AI Developer
• Python Developer
• Mechanical Engineer
• Web Developer
• .NET Developer
• Infrastructure Engineer
• Security Specialist
• Cloud Specialist
• Computer Network Support
• Research Associate
• Data Analytics
• Offshore Technician

What is the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP)?
The Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) is an employer-driven fast-track immigration program. It permits employers in Canada’s four Atlantic provinces to hire foreign nationals to fill positions that they are not able to meet the local sector.
Any immigration candidate who’s coming in Canada throughout the AIP must have gotten a job offer from an employer in Atlantic Canada. Newfoundland and Labrador occupations.
Following an employer provides a job to a foreign national, and the job offer is approved, the employer is required to join the candidate using a designated settlement service provider organization. This will help the candidate develop a settlement plan, and sometimes, carry out a needs assessment.
If companies need to fill a position quickly, they might have access to a temporary work permit. This way, the offender could visit Canada sooner. The candidate should commit to applying for permanent residence within 90 days of the temporary work permit program.
