How to move to Canada as a permanent resident?
To become a permanent resident in Canada, you must apply through an official immigration program. There are many different immigration routes to Canada, ranging from immigration for workers to immigration for students and immigration for families. However, the most popular immigration option for Indian residents is the Federal Skilled Worker – Express Entry program. Express Entry is a very fast immigration system that requires no job offers, requires no Canadian experience, and allows you to bring your family with you.
How to be eligible for the Express Entry program?
The Express Entry program requires a minimum of 67 points to become eligible and the total points accumulated by the candidate are calculated based on their information.
The six main factors on which 67 points are calculated are:
- Age – Although there is no age limit for settling in Canada, maximum points are awarded to those in the 18-35 age group. (Maximum of 12 points)
- Education – Degrees at the same level as the Canadian Council on Education establish that you will be able to support yourself and your family after moving to Canada. Therefore, a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree or a graduate degree from a recognized university is required. (Maximum points 25)
- Work Experience – Canada earnestly invites applications from qualified professionals through the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the Federal Skilled Trader Program. Therefore, it is advantageous to have work experience in occupations targeted by Canadian provinces. (15 points maximum)
- Language proficiency – Canada has two official languages: French and English. Fluency in these two languages is an added advantage. Otherwise, knowledge of English is a must for Indian immigrants and all other immigrants, not only for professional reasons but also for daily communication. To this end, IELTS and CLB tests are performed, both recognized by the IRCC where 6 bands in each module are the minimum eligibility. (The maximum points awarded for the IELTS is 24 and for the French language (TEF) is 4 points.
- Adaptability – If you or your spouse have a birth relative in Canada, you receive additional points for adaptability. (10 points maximum). If the candidate / secondary spouse also obtains a CLB 5 in the IELTS, he obtains 5 points.
- Job Offer – If you have a job offer approved by Canada’s LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment), this gives you 10 additional points. (10 points maximum).
