Vernon-North Okanagan is making it easier for immigration candidates to be selected

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot for Vernon-North Okanagan is easing a few prerequisites to allow employers to hire more employees beginning December 1. RNIP program is easing requirements.

The pilot has been first introduced February 2020, and has up to now received 21 applications, of which 19 were approved.

The RNIP program for Vernon-North Okanagan began with conservative criteria to be sure that the community can manage potential demand, and is now easing some prerequisites to allow the community’s local market to grow.

What are the Changes ?

The most notable shift that will help companies hire more workers, is the reduction of the minimum wage allowed to $23 from $25 per hour.

Moreover, those who have been working, studying or residing in the area for at least six weeks are exempt of this criteria as long as their current wage is between 18 and 22.99 dollars per hour, plus they score a minimum of 30 points in the community’s point system.

There also have been point increases for candidates that have worked or studied in the community. People who’ve studied locally for at least two years in the last five years will receive 10 points up from six.

Points were also increased for candidates with immediate family locally. Candidates will get three points, up from 2, for every adult immediate family member that resides in the area for at least six months. The number of points a candidate can get from using immediate family members is now capped at nine, up from eight.

There have also been point reductions in the community’s standards. Applicants will currently receive around ten points for work experience beyond the community, down from a maximum of 15 points. Just those under 25 will profit from this shift, as they will receive three points rather than two. RNIP program is easing requirements.
